Just to make you lot feel better, my wife and I had FOOD POISONING for Christmas Eve! Yay! We were largely over it on Christmas Day, and I'm back at work feeling just fine now. But we'll never, ever eat packaged spinach and feta dip again. Ever. As a result of our sickness, we weren't able to have our planned Christmas Eve or Christmas Day dinners or breakfasteses, but I did have this thread to keep me going when my head was splitting and my bowels were...well, we'll forget about that. Thanks not only to buml0r for his talent and care in crafting this thread, but also to the goons who replied to it and made it a terrific experience. I really can't wait until next year.

Yeay! That was pure snattawesomeness! My Snatturday was also awesome; happy kids, great pressies & huge foods. Today not so good - whilst we were at the in-laws for the Boxing Day & their Wedding Anniversary celebrating, the dogs got into the fridge somehow and et an entire huge beef and a huge ham and the left over party munchies!

Thanks for another great year. Once bowy appeared I knew this
year's would be even better than last's. Glad you had a great x-mas.
Mine was great also, I received paper printouts of all the things
amazon couldn't deliver in time, plus a vacuum!

Goondolences. quote:Thanks ... also to the goons who replied to it and made it a terrific experience. Absolutely. The Advent(ure) Calendar thread without replies might be readable, but it would be a heck of a lot more boring and not a proper thread at all. THanks to everyone who replied. Radio PhoolCat posted:My Snatturday was also awesome; happy kids, great pressies & huge foods. Oe noe! It seems like everyone had some sort of food-related problems. Rich had food poisoning, you had dogs steal food, and my parents went out of their way to go home with some milk (initially concieved as some of our milk, but then we found a shop that was still selling on xmas day) due to their milkman not coming back 'till Thursday or something, and they managed to go and leave it at our house! ...That is such a boring story. See now why I tell stories about Snatter instead? davebo posted:Mine was great also, I received paper printouts of all the things amazon couldn't deliver in time There was nearly some of that here, until the last presents arrived at something like 3pm on Christmas Eve, I kid you not. And we both ordered at the start of the month. What's that all about? I mean it was the Marketplace, but still.

This was absolutely awesome, and I'll definitely be tuning in December of next year. Ever think of making this into a movie/animation? I think your style would work wonderfully animated, but good lord that's a lot of time and effort. And I'm not sure Bowie would approve. ![]() Thanks again for an awesome thread, awesome pictures, and above all a really really great story.

bitterandtwisted posted:Great thread. I hope we get an epilogue to see what happened to all Snatter's classmates. Oh, they all got married and had kids and sent them off to Elf School. All was well. Only joking, in fact there are many more tales to be told of the Vendequm and the various important histmastorical events that helped build it. But, briefly: ![]() Burgess continued to age despite his immortality, being the first of the Elves to escape to the Lap of Luxury and set up the Workshop. Eventually he became too wizened to work in the Workshop itself, but continued to cast a fatherly eye over operations from his Grotto, seldom ever emerging: a sighting of him became a deeply moving experience for all Elves. ![]() Duddles, either because of his innocent nature or because of something complicated to do with the quantum chocolate, was always younger than many of the others, and went on to become one of Snatter's most trusted friends. Ever fascinated by technology and invention, Duddles created a lot of the useful gadgets we base our lives around today, but takes no credit for them. One year he got a PSP for Christmas, and is reported to have found it disappointing. ![]() Dooley's debt to Snatter was, in Snatter's own view, paid off in full long before Snatter returned to the Workshop in adulthood. However he continued to work there for (as far as can be discerned) all time, and although no such official title was ever appointed, Dooley acted in the role of Head of Workshop. ![]() Although still a bit wet at times, Puffy remained an advocate of traditional toy making for children. If you ever see a toy made from wood, it's almost certainly at least descended from one of Puffy's designs, which in turn were closely based on those of the Ancient One, Burgess himself, but tweaked to be more robust and safe. ![]() True to his word, Beazie went on to become a very rich and important man in Manhatten, a business magnate worth several billion. Beazie was wiggling the Antisnatter at the moment of quantum merging. "Time will travel with him" being an important part of the Snatter prophecy foreseen by Burgess (hence the ability to deliver toys to all the world's children on just one night), the Antisnatter would also posess such powers and be able to observe both timelines occurring one after the other, as the Snowman did. Beazie was touching him and so would also be removed from the timeline in a similar way, but not being either Snatter or Antisnatter, would not have been capable of coping with it. This could be why Beazie seemed to lose his memories of life at Elf School in the transition from Lapland to New York, retaining only trace memories. Of course, this might not be the explanation at all, we shall have to wait and find out in the course of things. Beazie never again believed in Snatter. ![]() David Bowie enjoyed a long and successful career in music and film. Further videos and notes made by Bowie on the subject of his time travelling adventure suggest that he did not go on any further quantum hops, due to an internal fear that his journey to the scene of the Snowman's sacrifice may have caused some kind of quantum discharge which physically corrupted a friend of his in a way as yet unknown to science. There is no evidence that this corruption was the actual cause of his friend's death only four years later, but the possibility of it seems to have prevented Bowie from pursuing his quest further. However, he has now come to terms with what happened, and continues to wait patiently for the Snowman to explain to him on his own terms what happened that day. David is still performing to packed audiences. ![]() The Snowman is still reborn each winter, along with all Snowmankind, a result of their quantum curse. This awakening is disorienting to them at first, but after a brief period of childlike confusion and rediscovery of the world, they remember Snowmansland, and return there by flight, where they throw a big party. Snatter tries to make a point of visiting this party each year. The Snowman himself remembers one thing with each awakening, however: he has taken a vow of silence, to prevent the innocent children who rebuild him from finding out about his past. The Snowman was never sure that he had been forgiven for his terrible responsibility, until the year Snatter gave the Snowman's scarf to the young Bowie as a Christmas present. This proved Snatter's deep respect. The Snowman is reborn in the UK each year around Christmas, to the delight of children all over the nation. As for Dooper and the Antisnatter, well, that's another story for another time. ![]() Snatter, of course, went on to become a very important person, and the kindliest man in the world. With the help of his Elves, he maintains the Christmas tradition each year, despite the goons from the Ho Ho Or Humbug thread. Season's greetings!

Hallo again m80s! Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I haven't quite finished it yet. Remember I said there was still something coming? Well, the truth is I had a Christmas present all planned for you, but then things happened as things tend to do, and in the end I had to decide that a new calendar entry every day was more important than getting the last door's festivities finished in time. Think of it as a Christmas present, the delivery of which Amazon weren't able to guarantee in time for Christmas. This is the sort of Christmas present I have to make in secret, and what with all the days off work and various goings-on ever since Christmas day, I could only finish it ready for tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow, not today. But it has been suggested to me that all this waiting will make the eventual reveal ever less likely to hold any interest, and so in the meantime here is a little something else, also originally intended for Christmas day: The Making Of Advent(ure) Calendar 2007! Yes, it's a bit big and yes, it's in a format some people still can't run. If anyone knows a good format to shrink it down to without compressing it up so badly you can't see the drawings, I'll oblige. Meantime I hope it suffices as a little New Year present. Pending the dread claw of fate, I look forward to giving you the last little bit of this year's Snatting tomorrow night. Happy new year m8s!

Sonata posted:twiddly-dee They were sketched with a blue mechanical pencil and inked over in Photoshop for that MSPaintey feel from last year, when I was doing it very low-fi. Ended up with a stack of paper just under a centimetre thick by the end of the month. Here's an example - remember this picture, right at the start? ![]() Well that was one of the first drawings I did for the thread this year, and I was still labouring under the belief that I should pencil over them a bit more neatly before inking. I can't even remember why I decided to do this. Maybe I thought it'd help me ink them more precisely, which turned out not to be necessary. Anyway, here's what it looks like on paper, and you can click this little bit to see the full thing:

Right then! I said I had another Christmas present left over with which to finish off the thread, and here it is. Now then, I realise it's been a couple of weeks now, but I trust you still remember Mecha Snatter? ![]() I mean he's more of an archetype than anything, nobody actually believes in Mecha Snatter! Not properly anyway! He's more an amalgamation of different robot legends from around the world, unified by coca-cola ads and yuletide movies! But no, he's REAL and HERE HE IS, BLASTING through the sky, in a blaze of sparkly hate! And you remember what's the best way of dealing with him, right? Well, in the spirit of opposing all those grumps in places like the Ho Ho Or Humbug thread who can't stop going on about how much they hate Christmas music - - here's some Christmas music! Yeah, it's out of season now, but who cares! I couldn't get it finished any sooner anyway, since it's hard to get time to yourself at this time of year. Here it is folks: The Ballad of Mecha Snatter moh!
